Glasser Quality School

The GLASSER Quality School is a combination of Choice Theory® and the Competency-Based Classroom. It is a teaching method that persuades almost all students to do at least satisfactory work.

For Glasser, Education ʺmust move towards a philosophy of commitment, value and reflectionʺ.

To achieve quality at school, it is essential to eliminate all forms of blame, criticism and constraint.

W.G reveals that traditional coercive supervision is the source of problems in education, then he shows how we can replace a system based on control with a system based on cooperation between students and teachers.

This cooperation establishes and promotes good relationships between children first, then between adults and children. This system will avoid failure which according to W.G. has two main components:

  • Lack of love
  • Lack of self-confidence

So according to W.G. in the E.Q. it's necessary to:

  • stop pushing behind students’ backs;
  • teach in a way that meets their true needs;
  • improve behaviours based on personal pride
  • create a friendly climate in the school;
  • implement a quality-oriented approach;
  • establish cooperative learning;
  • and interest young people in school management.

The Glasser Quality School is a school that adopts Choice Theory® and the process of reality therapy based on:

  1. improving relationships between teachers, students and parents;
  2. the elimination of all methods based on coercion or external control;
  3. creating an environment that meets the needs of students and teachers;
  4. creating a climate conducive to learning;
  5. learning to resolve interpersonal conflicts;
  6. the establishment of a process aimed at self-discipline;
  7. the improvement by the student of their relational skills;
  8. and establishing a commitment through a class contract.
